Woodworking Fundamentals

Purpose

To offer eligible students, interested in the craft of fine woodworking, the opportunity to learn woodworking fundamentals using machines and hand-tools. This is a volunteer program, not a class - course credit is not offered.  A nominal fee is charged to cover materials and supplies.

Participants will be instructed in the safe and proper use of various woodworking machines and hand-tools.  They will practice and apply this information and knowledge through the construction of selected furniture pieces such as the small side table shown below.

Eligibility

This opportunity is available to Frostic School of Art majors and minors who have completed the Level 1 training:

Woodshop Access for New Art Students

Woodshop Access for Returning Art Students

Based on the commitment, performance, aptitude and interest of the student, they may be invited to continue their training as part of the Fine Woodworking Apprenticeship Program. This “pre-apprenticeship” will also help the participant make an informed decision about whether the apprenticeship program is a good fit for them.

To get started, book a 30 minutes appointment at AppointmentQuest with Brad Smith to discuss the possibilities.
